French Door FAQs

French doors are installed as a pair & fitted onto hinges which enable them to open outwards or inwards. Patio doors are more of a catch-all term that refers to any set of doors that open directly onto a paved area. This means patio doors can include doors that open with a slide, whereas French doors do not.

There are several things you may want to consider when choosing the colour of your new uPVC door. Firstly, you need to think about the exterior parts of your house, such as the window frames, brickwork & roof tiles. You may want to choose a colour that will coordinate with these features. The age & style of your property will also need to be considered; you should aim to select a door style sympathetic to your home’s natural features.
Also, think about those living around you who will probably see your exterior as often as you do, so while individuality is a good thing, try to be sympathetic to the style and the colouring of the houses on either side.

Historically, Yes, French doors have been defined by the fact that they’re always installed as a pair, with a left door & a right door. This is why you’ll sometimes find French doors listed or described as double doors.
