What Are Sash Windows?

The word ‘sash’ refers to a single frame for glazing. The sash sits inside the frame, which is fixed to the house. A traditional double-hung sash window features two sashes, split into a smaller number of panes, that slide up and down, or occasionally, side to side in the case of horizontally sliding sash windows.

Sash windows use an operating system that balances the sash with a steel, cast-iron or lead counterweight. This weight is hung on a cord that’s located in a box within the frame of the window.

Sash windows are great in hot weather! This is because sliding sash windows open at the top and bottom, cooling and ventilating a room more efficiently in hot weather. Not only that, they are beautiful in appearance, offering a classic heritage look.

Why Choose Sash Windows?

Sash windows have the ability to tilt as well as to slide but also give you years of life with little intervention, meaning you don’t need to regularly upkeep your sash windows. uPVC construction results in a window that doesn’t rot, swell or warp, while never needing re-painting, so you can be sure that these sash windows won’t be high maintenance.

Energy efficiency is an ongoing battle with many older properties in Scotland and Glasgow, with potentially ill-fitting single-glazed windows being the dominant source of heat loss.

Experiencing Temperature Fluctuations?

Replacing a traditional timber sash window with our uPVC vertical slider windows can eliminate this issue, reducing the money you spend on heating your period home in Glasgow.

They can also reduce the level of exterior noise and draughts that penetrate your home, leaving you to enjoy a peaceful warm haven.

Something to consider, though, is that many period properties are subject to stricter planning regulations, particularly if situated in conservation areas.

Vintage Look With Quality Performance

Our customers in Glasgow love how smooth our sliding sash windows are! Long gone are the days of sliding sash windows sticking or becoming awkward to operate, thanks to our innovative designs. Sash windows are perfect for homeowners across Scotland and Glasgow who want the appearance of timber windows which have a vintage look but the modern performance of uPVC.

What Are The Benefits of uPVC Windows?

Eco-friendly Alternative

The unique structure of uPVC windows can be fully recycled after it reaches the end of its lifespan (20 years). The recycled PVC content is turned into granules through a shredding process to enable the material to be recycled up to 7 times! The eco-friendliness and efficient performance of these windows have made them highly desirable amongst domestic and commercial property owners in Glasgow.

High Security Benefits:

Your property’s security is essential for any window installation.

The material itself is incredibly lightweight but also has a high level of durability, unmatched by other materials. uPVC windows offer a lot of versatility, with different locking mechanisms and the ability to be equipped with double glazing. This all helps to secure your home and keep criminals out.

Low Maintenance:

uPVC is naturally a low-maintenance material. Therefore you won’t need to do much work to keep your windows looking good over time. Other materials are prone to rotting or flaking when they have been subject to extreme temperatures, with our sash windows you won’t need to worry. You will only need to occasionally wipe them down with soapy water to remove surface dirt or grime.

Weather Resistant:

Many window materials suffer from the dramatic effects of weathering. Our uPVC material is so durable that you won’t experience the same average wear and tear you would see from other materials.

Our uPVC material is exceptionally durable and capable of withstanding extreme elements, but you will still want to take good care of the material.
